Frequently Asked Questions
What are the differences between library groups?
While each has its own mission and funding sources, all three work together to ensure the library remains well-funded, well-run, and a strong community resource.
Library Board of Trustees
The Library Board of Trustees, as established by law and appointed by the Mayor and Council, provides governance and oversight for the library. Trustees set policies, approve budgets, hire and evaluate the library director, and ensure the library fulfills its mission to serve the community. They focus on long-term strategy, accountability, and making sure the library is run effectively and responsibly.
Library Foundation
A Library Foundation is a nonprofit organization that raises private funds to support and expand library services. Through donations, grants, and fundraising campaigns, the foundation helps finance projects, programs, and improvements that public funding alone may not cover.
Friends of the Library
Friends of the Johnson Public Library is an independent, volunteer-driven
non-profit organization that supports the library through advocacy, fundraising, events, and volunteer work while delivering a wide range of programs and projects that enhance the cultural and educational life of our community.
